八○年代以來，西方學界興起一場所謂社群論者對自由主義的論爭。社群論者認為自由主義預設了一個錯誤的自我觀、忽視社群的價值以及過度強調自主性等。本文目的在處理社群論者的主要論點，並評估他們的理論力量；同時理解在什麼意義之下，他們的理論對我們可能具有的啟示作用。

This essay considers the criticisms made of liberal political thought by the communitarians in the 1980s. Liberalism came to be severely criticed by communitarians. Liberalism's emphasis on individual liberity, rights and distributive justice were seen by the communitarian to ignore the social nature of the person and to ignore the value of the community. By articulating some of the most central elements of the communitarian critique of liberalism and evaluating the force of communitarian criticisms of liberalism, the author pinpoints the insufficiencies and biases in the Communitarianism critiques.
