Twenty Peinan artifacts were selected for studies of color, specific gravity and texture as well as for examination by Raman spcetrospcopy for their maneralogy and for the presence or absence of chromium. The results indicate that all of the examined Peinan artifacts were of nephrite jade sourced from the Fengtien and the nearby Hsilin areas. This result supplied solid evidence for further studies of the Neolithic Peinan culture internally and externally, as well as the subject on the jade industry in Neolithic Taiwan.
