Media and education are becoming more important in our society and daily life. Therefore media education is broadly applied in school instruction. This paper focuses on exploring media literacy regarding its definition, essence, content, and rationale. The author also offers his teaching examples of photog- raphy appreciation to show the students' competencies of media literacy at teacher college level. The result shows that students lack the competencies of both knowing history and making criticism in their works. Finally, the author offers some suggestions regarding strengthening the competencies of media literacy for educational authorities and future researchers.
