The issue of establishing value is a critical assignment for people in the contemporary society. Human being enjoys the liberty for making individual choices; and in this process, manifest his value judgment. As the modern society becomes more diversified, the values also become more variant and relative. What, then, constitutes the ”correct value?” When we can have a correct value, people can establish self-confidence and human dignity. The technological innovations in the west significantly improve the material life of human beings, yet they bring along with them many unwanted side-effects. Without a firm ground built upon moral and religious faith, these scientific advancements may ultimately prove to be detrimental to the human society, which is grounded upon a balance between both knowledge and moral ethics. Without morality, technology itself does not fulfill the spiritual needs of human beings. Without faith, there is nothing to nourish the human soul. Negligence of moral ethics and religious faith leads to confusion over values, which can decisively destroy human dignity. The essay explores the relationship between value and faith from the following four aspects: 1. the foundation of value 2. human dignity 3. Christian civilization and 4. the value of faith. The author hopes to present a concise introduction between value and faith from a philosophical perspective.
