It has long been thought that when people are getting older, they are advised not to take exercise. Contrary to traditional perspective, medical literature supported that the elderly can benefit from engaging in physical activities via improving blood circulation, enhancing bodily function, preventing disease, and slowing down the decline in health, and so to live a healthy and happy life. The purpose of this study was to discuss what role and function the recreational sports can play among the elderly and what it means to them. In addition, this research was also to understand how the functional fitness was associated with the cultivation of regular activity among the elderly, in order to evaluate their capabilities for daily activities. Therefore, as supported by medical literature, by taking up some exercise, the elderly can improve their physical fitness which in turn helps to build up their confidence and cultivate the ability to handle problems associated with life adjustment. The study suggests that life-long learning among the elderly based on keeping on doing exercise regularly could be carried out, so as to facilitate learning more about general life skills.
