In this paper, the author criticizes the theoretical model of "Face and Favor" (by Hwang Kwang-kuo) in sociological research, pointing out that it is too reducible. He views this model as entirely incompatible with the methodology of "scientific research programmes" (by Imre Lakatos) used in philosophy of science and feels their difference should not be underestimated. With regard to the dilemma posed by the "sincization" of sociology, the author points out that the "Tongbian Zhonghe" approach--the search for the harmonious development of nature-man-society--is the fundamental characteristic of Chinese social thought, and suggests it could be utilised as a framework for the sinicization of sociology in general.
