This paper explores historical background of: Northeast Banner Change’’. It argues, based upon extensive archive of Japan as well as China, that ‘‘Banner Change’’, led by General Chang, Hsueh Liang had contributed to formal unification of China in 1918 and prevented Northeastern Provinces from falling into the hands of Japanese Imperialism.
