The paper aims at discussing the related issues from the discipline of geography on the demarcation of region based on East Taiwan as a case. I start to provide a general introduction on the changing concepts of region in the field of geography, and further endeavor to explore the regional nature of East Taiwan based on the associated discourses generated by the researchers on East Taiwan. The paper mainly reviews the regional concepts developed or argued by A. J. Herbertson, Paul Vidal de la Blache, Carl O. Sauer, G. H. T. Kimble, Tortsen Hagerstrand, Anthony Giddens and so on. I then choose the monographs and journal articles published or sponsored by the research community Eastern Taiwan Studies to discuss how researchers utilize the idea of region in their studies.
