題名:大學角色功能與經營管理之改變與省思--以後現代知識論述的觀點

二十世紀六O年代,後現代社會的到來,由於知識性質的多元與不確定性、高等教育體系的大眾化、「去中心化」使得大學與國家關係的轉變,促使高等教育角色功能的重新思考與經營管理方式的革新。本文以布赫迪厄(Pierre Bourdieu)的文化資本理論、李歐塔(Jean- Francois Lyotard)的知識論述,以及絲羅特和蕾思利(Sheila Slaughter & Larry Leslie)所主張學術資本論的盛行,來質疑高等教育的社會正當性、大學教授的正當性與國家管理高等教育的正當性,並提出後現代社會中大學所面臨的種種衝擊。再藉由以上學者對大學種種轉變的看法來省思後現代社會中大學存在的功能意義及其因應方式:大學確實再製社會階級不平等但兼具了社會與知識轉化(transformative)的功能;而不管是大學的管理也好,教學也好,因應不確定性的風險是一個新的挑戰;且大學教授仍有其培育科技公民的任務;而大學的另設專責之研究單位;而大學的經營應一方面在市場化的趨勢下發展差異性競爭優勢;另一方面也需配合國家政策發展「準企業管理」的型態。從後現代知識論述的觀點,大學不再只是將知識單一化或加以複製而已,大學的角色是要反思,成為知識相互溝通的媒介,大學之間是不同(different)、差異的(diversity),所以是「no specific idea」的,除了利用其學術自主性,讓科技更加人性化,經營管理也應保留學術工作的核心。
Because of changes in the modes of knowledge, massification of higher education system and the decentralized relation between nation-state and the postmodern universities, rethinking the new role, position and administration of higher education is necessary. This paper explores mainly the relative theories about function and identification of the postmodern universities on Pierre Bourdieu, Jean-Francois Lyotar, and Sheila Slaughter & Larry Leslie. The main argument of this paper is to discuss about many impacts of universities in postmodern society by questioning the justification of high education about the factors of social function, professors' identity and national dominance. The new reflection and responses of the postmodern universities that the author proposes are: 1. The postmodern universities are contributing both to the reproduction of their social inequity and to their transformation. 2. Professors in higher education are responsible for cultivating technical citizens and combining technique and humanization. 3. Administrators in higher education should set up additionally research centers of applied research for benefit. 4. Individual university should develop divergent competitive advantage in market-driven environment. 5. The administration of the postmodern universities should be a "quasi-entrepreneurial" approach according with national development and policy.
