漳平永福閩南話屬閩南西片方言，毗鄰閩西客語區，在長期閩客接觸的環境下，永福話發展出與廈、漳、泉等核心閩南區不同的音系特色。永福話的基底為漳州話，其音讀形式雖有諸多改變，但其音系格局仍保持漳州色彩。永福音系特點可分為「閩南西片方言的共同特徵」與「永福話的獨特發展」兩類，零聲母字在高元音-i、-u前增生新聲母g-，與宕開三白讀發生鍊動變為-i韻母分別是二者的代表特色。永福話在自身的閩南「基底」下，因外部方言影響，觸動自身的音韻系統變遷，並非只是單純的語音移借，音變皆具條理可尋。

The Zhangping Yongfu （漳平永福）dialect is part of the dialect continuum found in the western part of Southern Min, and is used in the transitional zone between Min and Hakka. Due to the long-term interaction between Min and Hakka peoples, the Yongfu dialect in southwestern Fujian（福建）has developed unique phonological characteristics, which are different from common Southern Min dialects such as Amoy（廈門）, Zhangzhou（漳州） and Quanzhou（泉州）. The basis of the Yongfu dialect is the Zhangzhou dialect even though the pronunciation forms of Yongfu are very different from those of Zhangzhou, The phonological characteristics of the Yongfu dialect can be categorized into the following two groups: the common features of dialects found in the western part of Southern Min, and unique developments found in the Yongfu dialect. The former category denotes the evolution from exposure to Hakka dialects, which can be demonstrated by the addition of an initial g before i or u vowels. Characteristics belonging to the the latter category are most clearly evident in the chain shift where Tang Kai San（宕開三）becomes the rhyme iΝ。
