地方志為專記一地之地方事物，是地方歷史與人文地理、自然地理的綜合體。清代初期鳳山縣志的纂修與重修為台灣鳳山地區的重要文化工程，《鳳山縣志》的纂修開啟台灣人獨任台灣地方志書編纂的首例。《鳳山縣志》纂修的目的除傳統的存史、資治功能外，其尚有宣示鳳山縣已受王道教化，納入中華帝國之文化圈的含意。《鳳山縣志》與《重修鳳山縣志》之綱目體例雖多有不同，《鳳山縣志》以先官後民為門目安排，《重修鳳山縣志》則以先地理後人文為門目安排思考。二者門目邏輯安排雖有差異性，但所記述書寫內容範圍則多為相仿。相較於志書的綱目體例，志書的記述書寫內容更可落實瞭解編纂者的編纂視角。志書做為地方的知識全書，《鳳山縣志》與《重修鳳山縣志》的編纂，顯現出清帝國邊陲地區志書，除滿足基本實務性的需求外，亦有特殊需求部分需之考量。鳳山縣志的纂修與重修，在綱目上符合帝國文化知識的分類，在內容書寫上需符合政治正確與需求，編纂者也透過綱目的分類與題材的選擇，顯現其對地方政治權力的操作與書寫視角。

Local chronicles are records of events and items that occurred in a specific area, and are a cumulation of local history, human geography, and physical geography. The compilation and restoration of early Qing Dynasty chronicles is an essential cultural project for Taiwan. In addition to traditional recording methods and governance functions, the compilation of chronicles signifies that an area has received benevolent enlightenment and has been included in the Chinese empirical sphere.These chronicles comprise the local encyclopedia, which indicates that the chronicles fulfilled basic practical needs in the border regions of the empire, and were also used for special needs. The outline of the chronicle compilation and restoration process conformed to the classification of imperial culture and knowledge. The written content must conform to political correctness and demand. The writers also used the classification of the outline and topic selections to provide insights into the operation of local political power and their perspectives on writing.
