Zhu Xi’s doctrine is central to traditional Chinese philosophy. In Qing Dynasty, there were many Confucians, who either supported or opposed Zhu Xi, criticizing, inheriting and selecting from Zhu Xi’s views of the world and life. Pro or con, these scholars enriched Zhu Xi’s doctrine through their discussion and launched a new era of Confucian scholarship. Liang qi-chao’s The Compendium of the Academic Scholarship in Qing Dynasty divided the academic scholarship in Qing Dynasty into four stages—the enlightenment, the heyday, the transformation and the decline. In this paper, we intend to discuss in details the historical situation and development of the Doctrine of Zhu Xi in Qing Dynasty.
