The main purposes of this study were: (1) to determine visitor preferences and behaviors in the Children’s Environmental Education Exhibition of Taroko National Park; and (2) to identify significant differences in viewing time based on demographic variables (i.e., gender, age, group type, area). The visitors were randomly selected and unobtrusively observed. The sample size was 452. The results showed that the overall average viewing time was 8 minutes and 49 seconds for the entire Children’s Environmental Education Exhibition. The three most popular interpretive exhibits were “ecological Q & A”, “listen to Taroko ” and “tracker”, attracting more than 60% of the visitors, with holding powers of 92.7, 89.3 and 57.7 seconds respectively. Generally speaking, the hands-on exhibits possessed more attracting power and holding power than the static exhibits. The viewing times for the entire exhibition differed significantly among group types. Based on the results of this study, implications for the development of interpretive exhibits in national parks will be discussed.
