Chi is a very important conception in Chuang Tzu’s philosophy. It is not only an actual substance indwelling Things, but also an intermedium between Tao and Things. It has metaphysical and physical characters. Because of the dual characters, Chi has the basis on leveling all things and offers men the possibility to freedom. In the following paper, three important issues will be discussed. Firstly, “One-Chi-Lun”: it means the origin of Chi not separated. Secondly. “Chi of Yin-Yang”: it is the dynamic substance. Thirdly, the contemplative spirit. The three parts are linked together as an organic allness. Chuang Tzu didn’t consider Chi an isolate object, but regarded that it could penetrate T’ien, Earth, and Man. Hence, through the practice of fasting of the heart, man can emancipate himself form any restrictions and ramble in the realm of the Infinite.
