日人據臺後，對臺灣原住民採威撫策略，其中在綏撫教化政策上，「觀光」咸被認為是最具效果者，是以日人乃積極開展安排原住民的觀光活動。另方面，十九世紀的帝國主義強權為吹捧自身之優越，誇耀殖民地有效統治，凸顯文明與野蠻落差，常舉辦各種展示殖民地人種與文物的博覽會，藉此達成目的。而日本自據有臺灣後，亦追隨帝國強林，無論在國際、日本國內甚或臺灣本島，皆積極參與或舉辦各種展覽會，並展示外界最有興趣之臺灣原住民，藉此傳達治臺之效與成為帝國強權之實。而臺灣原住民，一方面被日人招募觀光或自費觀光參與各種盛會，體驗文明之優，覺察他族與自身之異同，知世界之奇而引發部落群體觀光之意，但另方面，無論意願或非意願的各種表演，卻也成為其他人種參觀的對象，變成博覽會中的展示品，顯示日治時期臺灣原住民的觀光實具有「展示」與「被展示」的雙重意涵。

Regarding the tourism for Taiwan aborigines as one of the best policies controlling Taiwan, The Taiwan Government Office arragnes positively all kinds of journey for them, especially conducts them to attend the exhibition. In addition, the European imperial nations in the 19th century often hold the exhibition showing to colonial showpiece and ethnic group to aggrandize their place superior to colonial people and stress the difference between civilization and barbarian. Following the European imperial power step, Japanese government attends and holds many exhibitions in overseas, homeland, and Formosa Island, demonstrating the Taiwan aborigines for other people to communicate the success in controlling Taiwan becoming and imperial power. The Taiwan aborigines, no matter what they are voluntary or not in tourism, realize the difference between other races and themselves, notice the western civilization and wonderful world, and inspire the passion to participate in for those who never the tourism experience. Instead of visiting, when they perform something in exhibitions, they are assimilated to exhibit the other hand. According to the above-mentioned, we can say that the tourism for Taiwan aborigines in the Japanese colonial period contains double meanings of exposition and be demonstrated.
