The purpose of the present study was to conduct experts’, parents’ and child care givers’ perceptions of the basic competency for family child care givers. Research samples were selected by 2 stages. In the first stage, survey method was used. Sixty questionnaires of the expert group, 49 questionnaires of parents group and 76 questionnaires of child care givers group were collected. In the second stage, participants were different from the first stage. Ten experts and 10 child care givers were investigated by focus group interviews and questionnaire survey. Results showed that 34 of 67 items were different significantly. Finally, twelve items were selected as basic competency indicators. These indicators could be used as a reference for pre-service training courses sequence and ability assessment.
