　　　　　本文嘗試以利他行為與人際關係來表達中國人於感性方面的道德發展，及以公義、權利和責任來表達中國人於認知方面的道德發展。本文建立了一個中國人的七階段道德發展理論。這七個階段就是：(一 ) 服從與自我主義；(二 ) 工具性目的與機會主義；(三 ) 首屬群體感性與從眾行為；(四 ) 中庸取向社會制度； (五 ) 實用主義與基本權利；(六 ) 仁與普遍的倫理原則；(七 ) 自然的和諧：聖人式利他行為及道家式非價值判斷。作者以中國主要的哲學思想 (儒家及道家 ) 來闡釋這些階段的特徵。相對於 Piaget 和 Kohlberg 的理論，這理論更為強調感性方面的道德發展。
