　　　　　在任何社會中從事當地民眾的心理與行為研究，都應該具有足夠的本土契合性。只有其有足夠本土契合性的研究，才是一項良好的研究。本文提出了一套有關心理學研究之本土契合性的系統性看法。這套看法是以心理與行為之形成的「人類與環境互動論」為基礎。基本上，本土契合性所強調的主要是研究活動及研究成果與被研究者之心理行為(及其存在脈絡興運作脈絡)之間的相應性、配合性或調和性。本土契合性可分為兩大類，即焦點契合性與脈絡契合性，分別代表研究活動及研究成果與被研究者之心理行為及其脈絡的相應性、配合性或調和性。文中進而指出促成本土契合性的五項主要因素，並一一加以討論:(1)以往思想傳統的承接，(2)默會之知的運用，(3)同理心與同情心的發揮，(4)本土研究文獻的檢討，及(5)探索性實徵研究的從事。在本土契合性之系統性看法的基礎上，地分析了非西方社會之西化心理學(包括西化華人心理學)的困境。最後則討論了與本土契合性有關的三個相關問題，即脈絡觀與本土契合性、客位或主位研究策略與本土契合性、外國學者在他地從事研究的本土契合性。
