　　　　　本研究從激進的多元文化論者Young，與自由主義多元文化論者Kymlicka兩位學者的觀點，依次探究其公民觀與公民教育觀的基本主張及其意涵。首先在公民觀部分，多元文化論者提出差異公民資格觀的理想，在公民資格的考量上將族群成員差異性納入，給予族群特別權的保障，使族群不同的利益、文化經驗、生活觀點得到公開討論的機會，在公民認同上除了共同的認同之外，亦能保障族群獨特的文化認同，而在公民德行培養上，強調有能力相互尊重、展現、及處理差異問題的公民。其次，在公民教育觀方面，多元文化論者認為教育是族群文化延續的基本保障。學校除了是社會共同性文化的學習場合之外，亦需能包含各種差異文化的呈現，其目的在於培養能尊重差異，與處理矛盾、衝突能力的未來公民。所以多元文化論的公民教育觀在於使學生瞭解並尊重不同文化間的差異性，且能積極面對文化矛盾的衝突情境與解決差異的能力，以調節公民身分與族群身分間的衝突。
