There is a group of scholars in Taiwan who tries to integrate some parts of religions and wizardry with modern science and technology in order to further develop traditional Chinese life culture. The author analyzes this approach to life. Through an analysis of the academic context and the social background of its emergence, the author observes that this practice appears to be an effort to make wizardry scientific. The scholars’ concepts of life manifest that they construct their theories by mis-applying or coining some scientific terms to embody the wizardry’s views on life. From their methods one can realize that they carried out their “experiments” mainly for gaining personal experiences. As a result, the group encounters almost inextricable difficulties in legitimizing its approach and domain methodologically, institutionally and in terms of establishing a historical social tradition.
