　　　　　量化社會階層歷史比較研究中，社會學家往往把不同社會的鉅視結構，如職業， 階級，教育之分佈視為干擾變項，必須將它們的效應剃除後，再比較這些社會在階層結構所 涉及的封閉性或機會不平等性之異同（ Sobel，1983；Featherman and Hauser，1978 ）， 這也是眾多流動表，網絡表分析的焦點所在（ Hout，1984 ）；或者在剃除結構之效應後， 再比較這裡社會的階層化因果機制上的異同， 及其所涉及的封閉性或機會不平等性（ Mare ，1981 ），這就是許多地位取得比較研究的焦點所在。 不論是流動表，網絡表，或是地位 取得比較研究，共同的預設是：把鉅視結構的效應剃除後，所顯現的封閉性或機會不平等性 ，才能帶表 " 真正的 " 封閉性或機會不平等性，才能作為歷史比較研究的依據。 本文除了說明在量化社會階層歷史比較研究上，所常用的剃除鉅視結構效應之方法及相關的 爭議之外，並強調：把鉅視結構的效應剃除後，所顯現的封閉性或機會不平等性不一定能代 表 " 真正的 " 封閉性或機會不平等性，傳統社會學的方向有待商榷，社會階層歷史比較研 究的重點應該是探討鉅視結構對階層結構或地位取得發生了多少影響，而不是把鉅視結構的 效應剃除後， 再比較所顯現的 " 虛假的 " 封閉性或機會不平等性：最後並指出 " 分析鉅 視結構對階層結構或地位取得有多少影響 " 之方法。
