This paper aims to discuss the process the process of spatial construction of the cultural landscape in the Chyr-Shan Plain of Eastern Taiwan. In this article, we've tried to distinguish several different characteristics of the land development in the Chyr-Shan Plain during the past 100 years. Thus the process could be divided as the four phases below: 1) Prehistoric Landscape, 2) Micro-reclaiming Landscape, 3) Colonial Administering Landscape, 4) Mass-migrating Landscape. We attempt to analyze these characters of different phases through the dimensions of the land condition, the interaction among local communities and the State policy. We hope that the suggesting models in this essay could become a reference for the following study on the Chyr-Shan Plain.
