The purposes of this study are : (1) to probe the relationship
between the educational profession commitment in elementary
school teachers and the relative factors about the professional
commitment including social-demographic variables, self-esteem,
salience on a given identity, school culture,professional
working perception and attribution of ataching on one''''''''s
occupation;(2) to verify the proposed model of path process to
professional commitment. In order to avoid the cultural bias,
the Educational Profession Commitment Scale,the Attribution on
One''''''''s Occupation Question- naires and the Salience on a Given
Identity Inventory were developed by the researcher. The data
from 1210 valid teacher surveys were aggregated from a random
sample of 1503 elementary school teachers drew from four cities
(Taipei, Kaohsiung,Keelung, Tainan) and six counties ( Miaoli,
Changhua, Chiai, Tainan, Penghu,Taitung) in Taiwan. The
conclusions were made as the following: (1) the social-
demographic variables, self-esteem, salience on a given
identity ,school culture,professional working perception and
attribution of ataching on one''''''''s occupation having significant
influence to educational profession commitment; (2) the six
relative factors existing canonical correlation with the six
domains of educatio- nal profession commitment and being able
to be used to discrimi- nate the level of professional
commitment; (3) the proposed model of path process to
professional commitment to be verified partialy.
