With the advent of an aging society, leisure activities for elderly have become more important these days. In this study, the main purpose is to explore the problems that the elderly veterans might encounter while they are using community facilities for leisure activities. Research methods include literature review, semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation.Through interview seventeen citizens over the age of 70 veterans and two local officials in Kaohsiung area, the research aims to realize the provision of leisure facilities and the participation of the senior citizens.The results of this study are as the following: 1. the type of leisure activity participation tends to be the static activity; 2. the elderly veterans think that participating leisure activities is beneficial to them both physically and mentally; 3. most elderly veterans prefer doing leisure activities in their neighborhood; .4 elderly veterans reflect the inadequate recreational sites and facilities in the neighborhood; 5.community group activities programs cannot attract the interests of elderly veterans; 6. activity center cannot provide recreational functions fully; 7.elderly veterans personal objective factors can impact the participation in leisure activities.Findings are as follows: 1. Elderly veterans' participation in leisure activities can really bring leisure function; 2. community recreational activities need to provide much-needed leisure facilities for the elderly; 3. community settings, leisure activities, and leisure facilities planning should consider the needs of elderly veterans; 4 existing community recreation facilities should be properly repaired and improved.Further based on the findings, the research also offered concrete proposals for the elderly Veterans using community facilities for leisure activities in their leisure time.
