Bing Lu and Hunguang College’s reprints are both Bailudong College's kanben amendment.
Chapter four introduces the editing theory comparing among “Zheng Zi Tong” and other dictionaries. Firstly, we need to observe the editing of dictionaries. From editors and user's point of view, we can divide the editing into 3 parts: reasons of publishing, editorial styles, and paragraph styles. The reasons of publishing those dictionaries are the words changing in time and modification of previous dictionaries. The most important is that all authors want to express their own view of words changing through their publishing. By editorial style, they mainly use radical formation to edit, but authors in later generations shaped and modified the radical formation according to the different views. Another way was by rhyme or four tones according to rhyme dictionaries. In paragraph styles, they used to use the radical as reference, and then used rhyme or four tones, and the basis of strokes.
