題名:捍衛社會身體:臺灣SARS疫情中的災難治理及其宗教論述

     本文之目的,在呈現2003年SARS疫情在臺灣爆發與擴散時,各種宗教團體的有關「論述」,並試圖初步討論這些「論述」在當代臺灣社會災難治理過程中所扮演的角色。傳染病在現代社會的傳佈,至少可能會激發起兩種強烈社會意像:一個是關於「風險社會」與「性命攸關時刻」出現之現解;一個與對於「社會身體的想像有德。2003年SARS疫情傳佈臺灣期間,各種具有群眾基礎的團體,都提出特有的「論述」來面對錯前述兩個主題。出於結構性位置,以及論述的生產、傳佈、與消費等各各層面所產生的差異,這些團體的宗教論述間亦有極大區別。本文中具體討論的有四種不同災難論述模型:風險理性、天命主義、以交互關聯性為出發點之共業倫理、和具有個人主義性質的整全性信仰等等,它們在對於災難的成因、化解災難的方法、關於社會身體的想像、與有效社會實踐等等各方面的認定上都有所不同。這些論述提供了民眾素材來建構個身的認知鋹體,使其可能在一個象徵性的層次,實際面對現代社會中災難所帶來的恐懼與焦慮。而當災難來臨時這些論述中所強調的「社會身體」的保護與強化,則將進一步間接有利於「社會再生產」過程之進行。
As the SARS epidemic was spreading in Taiwan in 2003, many religious discourses were being disseminated. This paper seeks to provide a discourse analysis of these materials, and tries to shed light on the general disaster management process within Taiwanese society. Such an epidemic in our modem society, may raise at least two kinds of social image, one being concerned with the "risk society" and its "fateful moment," and the other with the "social body." During the SARS outbreak in Taiwan, most of those influential religious groups produced discourses related to these two issues. Differ in terms of their structural base, and with the mediation process differing in terms of producing, editing, and appropriating discourses, several different types of discourses have emerged. Using data collected during the SARS outbreak in Taiwan, the characterizations of four types of disaster discourses are analyzed and compared in relation to: 1. risk rationality; 2.faith in the heavenly mandate; 3.ethics based upon collective karma and interrelatedness; and 4.individualism with a holistic faith. There exist differences among these dimensions regard to the explanation of the cause of the disaster, the perception of the social body, and the way in which social practice becomes effective. These discourses offer people materials to construct their subjectivity, and to face the fears and anxieties arising from disasters. However, as the image of the social body has been strengthened during this process, social reproduction has also taken place.
