　　　　　二十一世紀是以腦力決勝負的知識經濟時代，想要迅速累積知識、有效吸取他人研究成果的重要利器便是閱讀。近來研究發現閱讀動機是多元面向而特定領域的，與閱讀頻率與廣度等閱讀行為有關。本研究綜合閱讀動機與閱讀行為的相關文獻，以台北縣市五所國小五、六年級學童共457人為受試進行實徵研究，研究工具包括閱讀動機量表與閱讀行為調查表。研究結果顯示閱讀動機與閱讀行為間呈正相關，而女生的閱讀動機高於男生，其閱讀的頻率亦多於男生；女生較常閱讀文學、歷史地理與自然科學類，而男生閱讀趣味休閒書籍與手冊秘笈的頻率高於女生。五年級學生的閱讀動機與閱讀行為皆高於六年級。在閱讀動機上有社經地位的差異，高社經地位者的閱讀動機較低社經地位者強。本研究除進行討論外，並提出相關的建議。
