The prosperity of China’s Internet development has driven many online activities to grow. The publication of Internet literature was one of it. Originated from oversea Chinese community, internet literature soon became a domestic cultural phenomenon. After 20 years’ growth, it has turned from small websites into a huge publication industry. The economic significance of internet literature has drawn the attention of Chinese government’s speech regulations. A series of censorship actions have been acted to filter internet literature content. As a result, internet literature has been contained by a very tight self-censorship. Internet literature website operators have learned to avoid sensitive political contents and focus more on non-political sensitive and entertainment-oriented subjects.
