This study reviews the origin and development of critical linguistic, pinpoints the key point of view of it and furthermore compares the differences between social linguistic and critical linguistic. It also introduces the five most important rules of critical linguistic in analyzing text and tries to form a so-called local power concept, with it the author analyzed three newspaper reports during the last presidential election campaign in Taiwan. Language is never value-free. In the so-called "neutral", "objective" reporting of journalists, there are idologies and power relations to be revealed. It is the purpose of this article to enhance the "critical language awareness" of the newspaper readers.
