In ancient china, law enforcement originated in vengeance. We could not only observe the attitude of society but the conflict of penalty, filial piety, morality and law by the behavior of revenge. This article wants to reveal the character and developing of law in T'ang and Sung dynasty by discussing the practical cases and judicious process of revenge. According to the law and trial cases in this period, there still existed some difference although the attitude toward revenge was almost the same strict. Officers sometimes even disputed on different opinions, these arguments were caused conflict between filial piety and law. For example, only one person was executed to death in Sung but there were some in T'ang dynasty. From T'ang to Sung, trials toward revenge were getting exempt and lenient. The Sung emperors frequently granted such pardons, but their importance was overshadowed by the more general grants of mercy.
