The number of people over 65 years old in Taiwan reached 2,188,578 in August 2005, accounting for 9.62% of Taiwan's total population. In order to obtain the necessary knowledge to adapt to and diversity their lives, the elderly have the motivation and need to learn. In a bill, ratified by Executive Yuan in November 2004, it was stipulated that Digital TV will be introduced in full scale in 2008. Combining the functions of TV and information technology to provide high quality video and audio content and other information services. Digital TV is seen as a fledging platform for lifelong learning. This study is thus aimed at discussing the impacts of the introduction of the preferred learning content for the elderly on Digital TV. To elaborate the issue, some learning content pereferred by the elderly will be explored through the literature review, and this preliminary result will be modified after several interviews with the elderly and experts of adult learning. Then, an estimation form of the introduction of the learning content for the elderly in Digital TV will be proposed, based on the modified results and other supplementary literature on Digital TV. Finally, a focus group will be conducted to discuss with experts in issues about the human-computer interface, the interactivity, and the content design. The study is expected to come up with some conclusions regarding the following issues: 1) The learing content the elderly preferred; and 2) Suggestions of how to design human-computer interface and learning content when the preferred content is introduced into Digital TV.
