本論文以筆者在自身創作中關注細微動作引發的情感作為起點,探究錄像藝術中身體行為與表達情感方式之間的關係,藉由影像時間和情感特質所形成的可感知心靈空間─錄像境域的探討,通過以擬態表現被展示的動作、以指示表現被言說的動作、以觸視表現被想像的動作,這三種轉譯情感動作,敞開「狀態場」的討論面向,提供另一種錄像藝術的觀察和詮釋觀點。
本論文共分為六個章節,第一章緒論中,述明筆者由創作者角度關注身體行為與情感表達關係的動機,藉探究錄像作品中身體行為如何表達情感的問題意識,以建立與過往討論錄像藝術方式有別的分析觀點為主要目的,而採用文獻分析、個案研究、行動研究三種質性研究方法進行書寫。第二章以1960年代開始的行為藝術史與錄像藝術史脈絡進行溯源,並探究行為錄像的時延與情感特質。接續為探究涉及身體行為和情感的錄像作品特質,與涉及擬態、指示與觸視的表達情感方式,第三章以錄像藝術史三位指標性創作者─布魯斯‧諾曼、比爾‧維歐拉、蓋瑞‧希爾的11件錄像作品為主要研究案例,第四章則以筆者2004-2015年九件行為錄像作品為主要研究案例。第五章分別討論與擬態、指示與觸視相關的論述與作品案例,探究錄像作品中身體行為與三種情感表達動作之間的關係。第六章為行動研究之再書寫步驟,說明經過前面五章的研究過程引發思考,筆者再創作的2016-2018年六件錄像作品,最後在研究與再創作基礎上,以「筆者錄像作品的定位」、「錄像裝置作品中機械與螢幕身體如何轉譯情感」、「錄像裝置作品如何藉觸視展現身體與心理距離」、「錄像境域的時空如何被認知」、「數位年代中如何重新認知影像」、「二十一世紀錄像藝術特質」,此六個提問與回應,釐清身體行為在錄像中表達情感的三種方式—擬態、指示與觸視與其表述可能,反映二十一世紀初以身體行為表現的錄像作品特質,擴增錄像藝術分析觀點的範疇,藉由轉譯情感的動作所形成的「狀態場」,為此類型作品的特質提出不同的觀點。
This dissertation starts from the feelings caused by focusing on the subtle movement in researcher’s artworks to explore the relation between body action and the expression method of feeling in video art. By the exploration of the perspective mind space — videosphere formed by duration and feeling of video art, and through three kinds of actions of translating feelings: the action being displayed in mimesis state, the action being explained in indication state, and the action being imagined in haptical visuality state, this dissertation aims to open up the discussion “the field of condition” and provide another observation and interpretation of video art.
This dissertation is divided in six chapters. In chapter one, researcher uses three qualitative research methods: citation analysis, case study and action research with the main purpose of establishing a different analytical perspective from the past discussion of video art by the motivation of the relative concern between body action and the feeling expression from an artist’s perspective, and by the awareness of how body action express feelings in video artworks. Chapter two, surveys the history of performance art and video art from 1960’, and reveals two characteristics of video artworks: duration and feeling. Next two chapters explore the characteristics related to body action and feeling in video artworks, and the expression method involved in mimesis, indication, Haptical Visuality. Thus, the third chapter focuses on 11 video artworks of three significant artists in video art history — Bruce Nauman, Bill Viola, and Gary Hill, and the fourth chapter focuses on the researcher’s nine video artworks made during 2004 to 2015. Chapter five discusses three keywords: mimesis, indication, and Haptical Visuality with relative esthetics and artworks to explore the relation between body action and three expression actions of feeling in video artworks. Chapter six, the writing step of action research, inclouds the thoughts generated from the research process of the previous five chapters, and the replies in six video artworks made by the researcher from 2016 to 2018. Finally, based on research and practical recreation with six questions and responses: “the positioning of researcher’s video artworks”, “how mechanism and screen body translate feeling in video installation artworks”, “how video installation artworks show the distance between body and mental”, “how videosphere being recognized”, “how to re-recognize image in the digital age” and “ the characteristics of video art in 21st”, this research aims to clarify three expression ways of body action in video — mimesis, indication, Haptical Visuality, reflect the characteristics of video artworks expressed by body action at the beginning of the 21st, and expand the scope of video art analysis. By “the field of condition” formed of body action of translating feelings to propose a different perspective on characteristics of this type of video artworks.
