本研究透過現象學研究法，以半結構式訪談收集資料，訪談內容採以Colaizzi資料分析方法加以整理，以探討精神分裂症患者在病後因應烙印之經驗。本研究以訪談九位精神分裂症患者，發現患者不僅承受疾病症狀，更承受病後來自社會的眼光，患者面對烙印處境所採取的因應策略包括「隱藏與退縮」、「尋求接受」、「調整內在觀點」、「面對患病事實」。患者採取的因應策略，可以避免直接暴露於烙印的負向情境，本研究結果提供精神科專業人員，深入瞭解精神分裂症患者因應烙印所運用的策略，提供衛教及處置之參考。
Patients with schizophrenia suffer only psychiatric symptoms but also the stereotypic misunderstanding from the general public. The purpose of this study was to explore the coping strategies that patients used in experiencing stigma circumstances. Nine patients participated in this phenomenological study through in-depth interviews. Interview data were analyzed by using Colaizzi’s method of analysis. Results showed that patients applied the following coping strategies in stigmatic experiences: concealing and retreat, seeking for acceptance, adjusting inner perspectives, and facing the reality of illness. It indicated that patients applied effective coping strategies in buffering negative circumstances. The results of this study can be used to enhancing psychiatric health professionals’ understanding of patients’ coping strategies. It provides the basis for designing health education and interventions to facilitating patients’ self-understanding and self-acceptance.
