Abstract
This research primarily aims to discover and discuss how mourners perceive spiritual-approaching arts therapy groups and how these groups affect mourners’ grief adjustments. The study covers 3 main topics: “research participants’ experiences and perceptions towards spiritual-approaching arts therapy groups”, “the effects arts therapy groups have over research participants’ grief adjustments”, and “the connotation of the participants’ redefinition of life through spiritual-approaching arts therapies.” The research, involving nine openly recruited participants, took place over eight consecutive weekly 3-hour group sessions. At the end of each session, thorough interviews were conducted and data were collected and then further analyzed through Phenomenology. The results are as followed:
Firstly, there are 3 levels of discoveries regarding research participants’ experiences and perceptions towards spiritual-approaching arts therapy groups; including 5 on the social level, 7 on the personal level, and 6 perceptions towards leaders, for a total of 18 perceptions.
Next, the 5 tasks of grief are discussed: 1. experiencing, releasing and managing grief, 2. accepting loss, 3. adopting the new environment without the deceased, 4. finding an eternal connection with the deceased while participating in the new life, and 5. finally refocusing their energy on the future.
Thirdly, 4 aspects of harmonies regarding the connotation of the participants’ redefinition of life through spiritual-approaching arts therapies are discussed: between one and one’s self, between one and others, between one and nature, and between one and God/gods.
Moreover, this study generally discusses and analyses the research data, and further presents some concrete suggestions in order to provide references for future related studies and practices.
