" Chinese Calligraphy" is a specific product of the historic national and cultural background. calligraphy, which is not only an important component of our culture but also a development along with the whole cultural system, becomes the symbol of Chinese Art. Thus, the highest principle of calligraphic art is based on philosophy; by investigating calligraphy, we can realize the spirit and characteristic of traditional Chinese culture. People always take Confucian thought as the standard in Chinese history, but actually all Buddhist and Taoist influences on Chinese culture shouldn't be ignored either, not to mention the Buddhist and Taoist influences on calligraphy and painting. Although we can't tell when they started, but we can never doubt the contribution to calligraphy made by Taoism. Therefore, we will try to relate "calligraphy" to "Taoism" and figure out the sources and intercommunity of both in this discussion. In order to analyze the inner components and philosophic authority of Chinese calligraphy, we focus on how to express Taoist spirit with the characteristics of calligraphic art.
