The purpose of this study is to display the course design and instruction efficiency of a life education course, “Cognizance and Learning of Life”, offered by General Education Center. The themes of this course focus on discussing destiny, people, environment and ego. Students were instructed by listening speeches, reading assigned books, watching movies and then doing group discussions. This course aims to guide students to contemplate the issues of life, develop their positive views on life and inspire them to deliberate the meaning and value of life, and learn to respect and treasure life. At the beginning and end of this course, we used “Life Meaning Inventory” and “Profile of Life Attitude” questionnaires to examine students’ learning efficiency and found they were significantly promoted on “life meaning’’, “the passion for life” and “the enrichment of existence”. Based on students’ topic discussion feedback and teachers’ classroom observation, we found students were inspired to deliberate the meaning and value of their life, and recognized how to respect life, treasure life, concern others, apply positive attitude to face the suffer of setback and death, confirm and accept themselves and aware of the relationship between nature and human beings. Meanwhile, students also learned to be grateful and cherish what they own now.
