Since 1895, Hong QiSheng, fell into the profound melancholy as a literati and an adherent from the former dynasty. Been through three emperors of Qing, Tóngzhì, Guāngxu, and Xuāntǒng, Hong, a true believer of Confucianism, in his prime time, had to witness the Japanese colonization. In the most chaotic era, Hong, insisted upon his integrity as a Confucius scholar, never shaved his hair or wore suits. However, his particular way of living, only came from his firm understandings and deep acknowledgement of Confucianism. In this article, we will discuss the sinocentrism, fidelity to principal, and the way of Confucianism and the Mencius in Hong's work.
