本文主要在探討臺南海岸線的變遷與人為開發和自然環境的關係。臺南地區是本省 開發最早之地區，而其自然環境的特性加上人文的因素，形成了本省海岸變遷量最大而且最 突出臺灣西岸之版圖。 全文分四段，緒論說明過去之相關研究及本文研究之觀點。第二章移民墾殖與海岸變遷 敘述從荷據至今三百六十餘年來，各階段之開發與海岸變遷之關係。第三章探討臺南地區之 自然因素與海岸變遷之關係。第四章分析影響臺南海岸變遷之人文因素。第五章所得結論為 近代臺南海岸變遷史與地理思想史頗為吻合。

　　　　　Tainan is one of the most accumulative coast in Taiwan. This research is based on the viewpoint of geography to analyze how the relationship between nature environment and human devolopment affecting the change of the Tainan coast. First of all, this paper presents each stage of the development of immigration and thus causes the change of cast. Secondly, it narrates the nature background and the possibilities which influence on the human development. The conclusion of this study is that the up-stream area of Tseng-Wen River (曾文溪) is an unstable base of geology. In addition, the climate of this area is the most tempest region in Taiwan. Fragile environment and unfitted development greatly increase the opportunity of erosion and sediment. In each stage, the change of the coast and the response of human behavior is agreed with the history of geography evolution.
