Pivoting on the dialogue between Taiwanese culture and contemporary New Confucianism, and centering on the ethic issues involved in the dialogue, this paper is intended to find the Confucian resources between the conservative and the innovative in terms of subjective concern-the concern over cultural meanings, social practices and the goals of life. Meanwhile, set foot into field between culture and life through the changes of ethical situation, the writher also attempts to prove that the dichotomy between the official Confucianism and the popular Confucianism is not enough to show the real circumstances of contemporary New Confucianism in Taiwanese society. Furthermore, the writer will approve the potent development of humanistic culture in the confrontation between cultural Chinese and provincial Taiwan, which also fulfills the fundamental meanings of Confucianism as humanism and the “doctrines of ren.” Therefore we must not be pessimistic. In the future, Confucianism will incessantly engage in and encourage social innovation and cultural development.
