[The author proposed that] the concept of “Technology Democracy” denotes that technology policies should be determined by those whom the policies are to be practiced upon. Applying such concept to the academy, it is necessary that policies regarding academic evaluation and university evaluation should thus accept criticisms and opinions from the academic society. This article dealt first with academic evaluation from a sociological perspective, regarding mainly technology democracy and reflexive sociology. Then, the article presented Taiwan’s academic evolution system of social science and the inherited logic of SSCI and TSSCI, while discussing their overall effects and unexpected results. The article also compared TSSCI with other databases in Taiwan and proposed some suggestions and conclusions. By doing this analysis, the article hopes to raise more attention and reflection on the social science evaluation system in Taiwan.
