This study aims at establishing what professional abilities a college Physical educators should have, so to understand National Taiwan University Students' approval for Physical educators' professional ability. Also, the result of this study provides a possible standard of what professional abilities should the college Physical educator perform and develop. The research method used here is a self-made questionnaire. The subjects are students who took physical class in the second semester of 2004. There are 607 effective questionnaires. Analyzing data by means of factor analysis, Cronbach α test, and descriptive statistical analysis, we reach the following conclusion: First, a college Physical educator should possess 48 terms of professional abilities. These terms could be classified as six factors which are "training and administration," "teaching and physical fitness," "sports safety," "the goal of teaching and the objective of Physical Education," "Physical Education knowledge," and "research." Second, besides the uncertainty for some items of physical educators' professional ability, National Taiwan University students approve of the professional ability of physical educators in college. They are also aware and approve of the importance of their professional ability.
