The everlasting charm of the classic love story Liang San-po and Chu Ying-tai is measured by the numerous adapted versions represented by various art forms. This article aims to explore cultural messages about gender in three films: Liang San-po and Chu Ying-tai; Liang Chu, and The Butterfly Lovers. The implication of adaptation strategies employed in the animation movie is also discussed by comparing characters and plots in each film.
