In battles during the feudal era, the color and pattern of shields were very important. This study focuses on shield patterns to explore expressions in form and color. A literature review was conducted to delve into the use of shield color and patterns. Documentary analysis was employed to analyze the elements that constitute the patterns. Fifty-four samples, along with the KJ method and comparative analysis approach, were used to probe the expressive form of patterns and the semantic differential method was used to analyze pattern imageries. Factor analysis was conducted to elicit statistical results. The research results show that the patterns of shields are often composed of crowns and supporters, the colors black, red, and yellow predominate, and their expressions convey an aesthetic and elegant ambience.
