Although there are so many wars that can't enumerate in Taiwanese history, it's valuable to discuss which one is the largest scale. Some people have a stereo impression to regard the largest war of Taiwanese history which Formosa Republic made resistance Japanese in 1895. I think it's necessary to consider. Because It doesn't accord with two scale: battle participatory amount each other and battle area. As matter of fact, one of Shih Chuan Wu Kung (the greatest ten wars) in Chien-Lung period, Lin Shuang-Wen event which had broken out Taiwan from 1787 to 1788 is the only example to match. Its essentiality was civil rebellion, but Qing government almost was defeated by Lin. After Chien Lung Emperor dispatched troops to suppress uninterruptedly, it finally resulted in battle field spreading out little by little. The Lin Shuang-Wen event had underwent four period: The first period was that the Taiwanese troops suppressed themselves from January 15 1787 to February 21. The second period was that Fukien troops anticipated to suppress from February 22 to May 7. The third period was that Chekiang and Kwangtung troops in neighborhood moved into Taiwan from May 8 to November 7. The forth period was that Hupei, Hunan, Kwangsi, Kweichow, Kiangsi, Szechwan, Kiangsu troops and guards of palace moved into Taiwan from November 8 to March 12 1788. The Qing government spent one year and two months to quell. I estimate which Lin Shang-Wen's troops was about 200,000 and Qing's troops (regular & militia) was 100,000. It's remarkable that Qing's troops was fewer than Lin's. It's turning point that Regular and Militia which used lots of matchlocks and cannon won victory over the Lin's. Taiwan had a population of 920,000 and 1/3 suffered battle pain at least. In addition, Statistics show that broke out 31 battles and spread out west plain of Taiwan. Indeed, I certify that the Lin Shuang-Wen event is a largest scale war of Taiwanese history.
