Family admonition” was Ji Kang’s last literary work. The writing differs distinctively from his previous pieces and his uninhibited character. The content of “Family Admonition” is not only full of devoutness and patience, but also enriched with earnest and unwearied admonishment. It reiterates the ways that his son should conduct himself in the society, manifesting a father-son strong bonding. This literary work reveals a different aspect of Ji Kang, as freely and bold as he usually presented. Therefore, this thesis propose to appear and emphasize the value and importance of “Family Admonition” at Ji Kang’s philosophy. Analyzing this article “Family Admonition”, allow us to comprehend and explores the depth of Ji Kang’s philosophy of Confucianism and Taoism. In addition, it will also evaluate the life of Ji shao, who, throughout his lifetime, exhibited discreet and respectable conducts and followed the social customs abidingly by the words of his father stated in this literary piece. Thus, the purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate how “Family Admonition” reflects an extraordinary value in Ji kang’s beliefs. Also, it will attempt to controvert historian’s criticism of Ji shao’s death over safeguarding a fatuous emperor as being disloyal and unfilial. By reviewing this literary work, it hopes to present a more comprehensive interpretation of Ji shao’s life to complement the insufficiency in prior studies.
