本研究主旨首先在於追溯探究高雄都會區工業快速成長的地理社經背 景與歷史過程；其次探討本區工業發展在時間面、空間面及結構面的變化 機制與演變脈絡；其三在探明工業發展營運條件的變化及其調適應變機 制；其四則在瞭解本區民眾對環境品質的滿意程度及其對環境污染影響程 度的認知與識覺，並討論工業發展對各層面環境的衝擊與影響；最後則說 明本區工業發展與環境變遷的前瞻方向。全文通過地理學觀點，以官方資 料和兩項實地訪問調查為基礎。基本上以空間為經，以時間為緯，並使用 多項區域經濟與空間分析方法及多變量統計分析，配合相關文獻與實地調 查結果加以闡釋說明。研究結果顯示：本區三類九種工業的發展已臻成熟 穩定，而工業發展的空間擴張脈絡與交通系統易達性密切相關，已形成九 大工業聚集帶。因應營運條件變化，廠商通過三種生產運作模式應變，已 找到「最適生產組合」的廠商為數甚眾，本區已從加工出口導向期邁向商 品化特色大量海外投資期。工業發展對環境的衝擊影響可歸因為四大因子 類型，雖然工業為本區帶來若干正向經濟回饋，但整體言負向衝擊還是超 過正面回饋。總之，未來應從新檢討本區都會發展與自然環境間的協調關 係，期能減少環境污染問題，重塑新的工業都會意象，追求軟體的、品質 的和環境的要求和提昇，期能逐步邁向世界都市化，昂首走上21世紀的 國際政經舞臺。

　　　　　The aim of this research is, first of all, to trace and inquire into the geographical, socio-economic background and historical process of the rapid growth of industries in Kaohsiung metropolis. Secondly, it probes into the changing mechanism and context of industrial development of this area in terms of time, space and structure. Thirdly, it finds out the changes of the operational conditions of industrial development and their adjusting response mechanism. Fourthly. it aims at understanding the satisfaction extent of the local citizens towards this area, and their cognition and perception of the effects and extent of environmental pollution. It also discusses the impacts and effects of industrial development towards various aspects of environment. Finally, it explains the prospects of the industrial development and environmental transition in Kaohsiung metropolis. This research paper is presented from geographical points of view. and based on the offical materials and two fieldworks, with time and space as the vertical and horizontal explanation respectively. This paper also adopts an apporach of multiple regional economic and spatial analyses, and a statistical analysis of multivariate. with the relevant works and results of interviews as further explanation. Based on this research throughout 14 months (1994.7-1995.9), 7 conclusions and suggestions are listed for future considerations.
