As one of the most famous anthropologists in Taiwan,Li Yih-yuan has made outstanding contributions to the anthropological development of China and even the whold world with his academic research. From a diachronic perspective, this paper sorts out the research path of Han studies which is an important field in Li’s academic career, finding that his understanding of Han Chinese society in Taiwan has undergone a transformation process. In the early stage,Li regards it as a culture lab to explore the representation of general Chinese culture, and in the later stage,he tries to find out the significance of culture localization from the changes of Han Chinese society in Taiwan.Such a transformation in research context embodied in Professor Li’s Han Chinese society studies also profoundly represents the development process of Taiwan’s academic circles, especially the humanities and social sciences.
