This research project aimed at examining the state of cultural awareness of educator training programs in Taiwan in order to define the goals of a multicultural awareness curriculum for training with respect to new immigrants from Southeast Asia. Moreover, it seeks to better understand the impact of pre-service teachers’ ethnic attitudes toward new immigrants from Southeast Asia. To reach the stated objectives, the researcher uses the methods of document analysis, expert consultation, pre-service teachers’reaction papers, and action research. Results ascertained from this research project are as follows: 1. Not all educator training institutions have set up a multicultural awareness curriculum pertaining to new immigrants from Southeast Asia. 2. The curriculum goals of multicultural awareness education include the performance of multicultural awareness education, attitudes of multicultural awareness education, and understanding of multicultural awareness education. 3. Multicultural awareness educator training is influential to pre-service teachers’ ethnic attitudes towards new immigrants from Southeast Asia. Post research suggestions: 1. The study encourages educator training institutions to set up multicultural awareness education programs pertaining to new immigrants from Southeast Asia. 2. The curriculum goal of cultural awareness education not only emphasizes multicultural awareness, but also pays attention to skills of critical reflection and affective objectives. 3. Educator training must stress the importance of social action that produces tangible results for pre-service teachers’multicultural awareness training.
