The purpose of this study was to explore the leisure participation, self-worth and happiness among the elderly in Taichung City. The study adopt the method of convenience sampling choosing elderly people from 45 years old of eight districts in Taichung City, 400 questionnaires are sent, recovery 396 valid questionnaire, the valid receiving rate is about 99%. Results after the analysis are as follows: The subjects of this study were mainly participating in leisure activities seldom. Primary factor that influence leisure activity motives are: ”physical fitness”, ”social level” and ”outdoor recreation” respectively. The elderly are with high self-esteem: primary option ”self-esteem toward own self”, ”as good as most of the people” and ”satisfied with own self” ranks the top three in the questionnaire respectively. Higher happiness is also shown in the results. The first factor is ”interpersonal relationship”, second is ”self-esteem” and third is ”satisfaction about life”. The person who participate in higher level, are highly self-esteemed and happy, which are positively influence. According to the results, it was recommended for the department in charge that it was good to provide more infrastructures for elderly people to raise their fitness, and to draw up moderate leisure advice for increasing the opportunities for their leisure activities join. Furthermore, the life quality of elderly would be promoted.
