In the past two decades, above-ground tombs similar to people’s residences, as well as tombs with the appearances resembling temples, have emerged in various burial sites in Meinong. These tall-standing and elaborately decorated buildings, which are collective clan tombs, have been referred to as "family tombs" (ga' tung') by the local residents. It is thus worthwhile to explore what changes in the collective consciousness and religious culture motivated the local clans to collect funds for the construction of family tombs, where ancestors can rest in peace and watch over their descendants.
